August 12th was their 5 year dating anniversary and so when Brittany got in touch to do this session, I thought it was the perfect idea!! I knew Travis + Brittany from high school (Travis was actually in my graduating class!) so I was excited to see their names in my inbox! We emailed back and forth countless times, planning the location, the outfits, the details, etc.! After things were starting to get closer to the scheduled date, I received an email from one of Travis’s sisters that read,” Hi Kelsey! This is Cady, I’m emailing you for Travis because he wants to talk to you about something privately and doesn’t want anyone else to know. He asked me to get your phone number for him and then he can call or text you.” Now, I’m sure you’re thinking exactly what I was thinking because it wasn’t hard to put two-and-two together!! :)
So Travis called me with his plan to propose and of COURSE I was on-board!! We took his idea of the proposal and my idea of how to fit in it perfectly to a session so that Brittany would have NO clue! So Travis had me email Brittany with his idea that went something like this,” So! I was thinking that since It’s your 5 year anniversary that you guys should do a fun little “game”.. well it’s not really a game.. but you’d have chalkboards and you’d stand back to back and write on the chalk board your favorite thing about each other and then show each other!! It would be so cute and the perfect little “prop” for your session!!” Of course, she agreed right away and thought it was a great idea! (YES!) *note, I had to make it sound like I came up with the idea so she really wouldn’t expect anything!!*
So we arrive to our destination, the Beautiful White Cliffs of Conoy, and during the session I couldn’t help thinking in the back of my mind… “She has NO idea what’s about to hit her!!!”. I eased them into their sessions with a good 20 minute warn-up session before doing the “chalkboard pose”. We headed down to the water, I set up the pose, they wrote down their “answers” and then they turned around and BOOM. Travis got down on one knee and Brittany smiled and giggled the whole time while I was sitting there capturing it all!!
We wrapped up the session with a few “newly-engaged” images and I made sure to clarify to Brittany that NONE of the proposal was actually my idea! ;) Gotta give credit where credit is due!! :) Enjoy!!
Travis + Brittany!! I’m SO honored and SO excited for you guys!! Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing me to capture your proposal and cross one of my items off my photography bucket-list!! You guys are amazing for walking 1.5 miles to your session and also just such a joy to be with!! Congrats again!!! xo! *the ring you see in the beginning images is a promise ring that Travis previously gave Brittany!*
I love this!! This would be a BEAUTIFUL canvas!!!
writing down their “favorite 3 things!”
“okay.. turn around and see what each other wrote!!”…. ahh!!!!! :))
