Life as we know it right now is being spent at home, with extra time on our hands as we navigate through quarantine. Since I already work from home, I wanted to give some of my best productivity tips and how to stay focused that help me on a daily basis! I know if you were to Google “productivity tips” there are countless ideas; exercise, drinking water, more sleep, etc. While those are all great, I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite tips and hopefully they’re new ideas for you!
top 3 productivity tips:
Make your bed – I’ve heard before by completing this simple task each morning puts you in the mindset that you’ve already completed one task within 10-15 minutes of waking up. Sometimes I even challenge myself to clean up the bedroom before walking into any other part of the house. Then I know in my mind that I have at least one cleaned up and organized room!
Get fully dressed, including shoes! I don’t know about you, but I feel a big difference in my productivity with this! Especially if I’m wearing socks and slippers OR putting on “real” shoes like sneakers or boots! Another reason why I like to get dressed is also to challenge myself to find something “new” in my closet that I haven’t worn in while. This will help me to do better at wearing all of my clothing, not just the same 4-5 outfits :)
Complete the chore first! You know that nagging chore that lingers in the back of your mind until you do it? Maybe it’s cleaning up the kitchen, starting a load of wash, or maybe it’s figuring out what you’re making for dinner. It’s easiest for me to just complete that project FIRST so that when I’m ready to jump into my work day, I’m not distracted and constantly thinking about that chore that needs done!
top 3 focusing tips:
Change up your atmosphere!! I cannot believe it took me SO long to realize that I get SO much more work done when I’m NOT at home. If I know I have a lot of work but have a hard time focusing at home, I’ll drive to a local coffee shop! By working out of your home, it’s eliminating your distractions of any house work that you should be doing instead. But this was before I discovered ….
Brain.fm (!!!!) I’ve never heard of this website before and maybe I’m super late to the game, but oh my goodness! It’s amazing! I love turning on the ‘focus’ sound because it does truly allow me to really focus! AND the bonus is that it’s not just for focusing (with different sounds) but it also helps you to relax or sleep! Give it a try and see if it works for you too!!
Hide your phone! Do you know the phrase, “Out of sight out of mind?” Well it’s true! I’ve found that if I have my phone sitting in front of me I’m constantly reaching for it. It it’s in a drawer or even under a piece of paper, I’m 10x times more likely to not grab for it when I look away from my computer. I’ve even placed my phone out on my kitchen island so that it’s truly out of sight! Another tip with your phone is to turn off all notifications, bells and whistles (so to speak) so that it’s not constantly disrupting your focus just to tell you someone liked your Instagram photo :)
