I met Kara back in 2017 when I photographed her sister’s wedding when she was a bridesmaid! There’s just something about staying in the family and photographing the siblings of past Kelsey Renee couples. I absolutely love it and it’s such an honor.. not to mention, it’s so much fun reconnecting with the family again!
Fast forward to this year where I got to meet up with Irv & Kara for their Wolfs Hollow engagement session and they had the most beautiful weather!! I loved that we were able to go to a place that’s special for them and capture their engagement photos there!
“Irv and I knew of each other in high school. He was a year older than me and he had a sweetheart at the time, so there really wasn’t a reason for me to talk to him. I knew his group of friends very well from riding the school bus to and from school with all of them. Moving forward, years later, (2012 if I remember correctly) I met Irv at a cancer benefit beef and beer.“
“We dated for a few weeks after that and I was head over heels for this man. I knew I wanted to be with him, but we just drifted apart. He started seeing someone and I eventually did to. A few years later, right around the time snapchat came a thing, he added me as a friend. We talked for a few days and then asked if I wanted to meet up for a drink. We sat out in the parking lot for hours talking and I asked him if he wanted to go out for sushi the following Friday and he said yes.”
” I wanted to make sure I wasn’t setting myself up to get hurt again. So I simply just asked, “what are we doing here?”. We were so worried about ruining our friendship that we had made. We just decided that we wouldn’t know if it would work unless we tried. Here we are four years later, happier than ever.“
..I thought I knew Irv better than I do. I thought I knew him so well he would never be able to pull off a proposal without me knowing it’s coming. I personally do not like surprises, but he surprised me BIG! One night he asked me for my father’s phone number so he could remind him their second batch of doe tags was due. In my head I was thinking, “my dad’s been an avid hunter all his life. He knows when the second batch of doe tags are due”. That made me curious and so I was so confident the proposal was coming.
We’ve been going down to Ocean City Bike Week for vacation for the past three years. A few of us decided to extend our stay just to relax and enjoy vacation a little longer. The last night there, we were sitting around a campfire with a few friends when Irv asked me to go for a walk. I looked at him and said “Are you serious? Usually I’m the one who’s begging you to go for a walk”. He said, “I know, I just figured you would bug me about it later so why not go now?”. “Let’s go” he said. I was like, “Oh wow, you really are serious about this walk”. We walked and talked all the way to the pier at the campground. We actually didn’t talk about us at all on our walk and instead talked about our dog, Rocky.
.. I turned to start walking back to the campfire and Irv says “hold on, I have to tie my shoe”. So I immediately thought, “what the heck, you are wearing flip flops” and turned around and he was down on one knee. I was speechless and was in heaven; I was so surprised and excited. My heart melted. He told me how much of a pain in the butt I am and asked me to be his “Mrs. Pain in the Butt.” We walked back to the fire and I called my parents and told them the news. Of course, they were so excited and happy for us. Then we also announced our engagement to our friends that were still down with us.
