If you know me at all as wedding photographer, you know that first looks are one of my favorite parts of a wedding day! So I wanted to discuss the 3 types of first looks that you should consider for your wedding day. I have countless examples of first looks as well as many testimonies about the positives of doing one!
One thing that I love to do is to educate bride and grooms on their wedding day so that they know of all possible photo options. When I got married in 2014, two of these options were not really popular. Looking back now, I wish I would’ve been able to incorporate one additional first look. Let’s dive in!
Oo starting off with probably my favorite first look of all. There’s really nothing more exciting than getting to capture the genuine excitement of two people seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. We did this for our wedding and boy, I’ll forever be grateful that we did. Not only is a first look SUPER beneficial to a wedding day timeline, it’s also one of the ONLY times you have together for just the two of you (plus the photographers).
This was the second type of first look that I would’ve incorporated into my wedding day (in addition to the B&G first look). As a daddy’s girl, I think these moments are the most emotional and truthfully, I regret not doing this! Getting to see the bond between a dad and his daughter on her wedding day – there’s just nothing like it. Another idea would be to replace the “dad” figure with a brother, grandpa, etc. if that works best for you!
Bridesmaids first looks are becoming more and more common on a wedding day! The idea is that the bride gets ready in a separate room than the bridesmaids. Typically only the mother and/or sibling are the ones helping the bride in the dress for the getting ready photos, while the bridesmaids are getting into their dresses. The bridesmaids close their eyes (or turn around) when the bride walks into the room. Then the bride tells her girls to open their eyes (or turn around) for the big reveal! It’s super sweet and a great way to incorporate your bridesmaids!
Did you incorporate any or all of these 3 types of first looks on your wedding day?? Comment below and tell me!
