When you receive an inquiry that says, “I just recently got engaged and we are planning a romantic, Bohemian style wedding in the mountains”, you know it’s going to be good. This blog post has been a long time coming. And I don’t mean because it’s been a little bit since their wedding, but because of that inquiry I received from Katie was the day that I’ve started this countdown!
There really are just no words to explain my gratefulness, my excitement and my love for this wedding experience. Jason and Katie gifted me one of the best gifts you can give a photographer; trust. Since day one of meeting with Jason and Katie, I knew they were different in a very good way. They are gentle, kind, adventurous (obviously) and have the most down-to-earth personalities. I knew their wedding day would be nothing short of amazing, and boy was I right.
The day started off with a 3.5 hr road trip up to the bride’s parents cabin where the girls got ready. We spent the whole morning there – details, getting ready, first look and bride and groom photos! We drove up a long and bumpy stone lane through the trees on the side of a mountain where we were greeted with an absolutely break taking view upon arrival. (At this point – Diane and I were like kids in a candy store. I wish I could’ve had you all with us!!) The sun was shining, the air was crisp and the breeze was strong.
Prior to the wedding day, the weather was predicting rain (as it has done for so many weddings this season) for Jason + Katie’s wedding day. While the rain held off all morning, it wasn’t until the ceremony that it started drizzling and people started ducking under blankets to stay dry. There we were, on a mountaintop out in the open with nowhere to hide or near our cars to run to if the skies opened up. (If we’re being completely honest I was doing plan B in my head if indeed it would actually start pouring). I will never forget thinking to myself of this narrative, “Wow. It looks pretty dark. Okay. It’s starting to rain – no one is acting frustrated or trying to leave – friends and family have all gathered together for Jason + Katie and here we are singing WORSHIP SONGS out in the open air on a mountaintop. It’s just Us and the Lord. Out here. Singing his praises. This is what it’s like to be in his presence”.
Did the rain effect Jason + Katie? Not one bit!! What I saw from them on that very day on the mountaintop was a couple that didn’t worry about the details. It was never about the details. It was all about celebrating God and his goodness and being thankful for the people that have poured into their lives.
After open mic at the reception, Jason + Katie stood together hand in hand and personally thanked their parents, for raising them into the adults they are today and for leading their family in a Christian atmosphere. (Wow!) If I had to pick a theme verse to summarize their wedding day I think it would appropriate to pick this, “ Less of me, more of Him.” <3
Jason + Katie – You have given me the gift of not only capturing a dream wedding in my career but also the gift of setting a positive example, to focus on the details that truly matter, to Love others so deeply as God loves you. You pour out love and radiate joy in more ways than one, and I am deeply grateful to have had an experience like this. Thank you!! XOXO!
